The University of California San Diego ("UC San Diego" or "University") requests a written response to this Request for Qualifications ("RFQ") for selecting a Special Inspection and Material Testing firm for the 5595 Multidisciplinary Life Sciences Building project. The proposed Multidisciplinary Life Sciences Building project includes approximately 202,000 gross-square-feet of space for interdisciplinary research and teaching for UC San Diego Health Sciences and the School of Biological Sciences. The 6-level building supports undergraduate classrooms on the first floor with secured wet and dry laboratories above levels 2-5 and a lower-level vivarium with a loading dock facility, and a basement. A pedestrian bridge will be included that spans between the Level 1 exterior plaza deck and the South Parking Structure. In addition to the building structures, the scope of work will include, but not be limited to, site improvements such as site work, roadway improvements, retaining walls, storm drainage systems, underground utilities, telecommunications, domestic and reclaimed water, high temp. and chilled water loop, underground vaults, hardscape and landscaping and additional coordination with adjacent projects. Firm will work in coordination with all university representatives, Geotechnical Engineer of record, and CM/Contractor. The project breaks ground November 2024 and will be completed by April 2027. The CM/Contractor is McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and the Architect is Flad Architects. The University is committed to promoting and increasing participation of small business enterprises (SBEs) and disabled veteran business enterprises (DVBEs), subject to any and all applicable obligations under state and federal law, and University policies. The selected consultant shall make best efforts to provide qualified SBEs and DVBEs with the maximum opportunity to participate. Every effort will be made to ensure that all persons have equal access to contracts and other business opportunities with the University within the limits imposed by law or University policy. Each candidate firm may be required to show evidence of its equal employment opportunity policy.
