**Bid Date was extended to 09/25/24 per Addendum 1** The University of Kentucky CAER (Center for Applied Energy Research) Carbon Fiber Development facility will serve as a research hub where researchers transform coal into a carbon fiber product. The process involves four distinct steps that begin with mixing coal into a hydrocarbon solvent. Once this occurs, raw coal powder will be transformed into a solvent. The coal/solvent will then be heat treated in enclosed Parr reactors (digestion/hydrotreating). The product of the digestion will then be distilled using a B/R Instruments distillation system. The product of this distillation is an isotropic pitch, which is then thermally processed in a closed system to form a mesophase pitch. The project includes the construction of a new one-story assembly building on the UK CAER campus. The occupancy group is (B) business with a type 2B, noncombustible construction type. The building will be non-sprinklered and has an overall area of 6,234 SF. The project will be constructed from prefabricated steel trusses and structural steel columns. The building form will be a single-pitched roof clad in corrugated metal panels. . The Question Deadline is 09/11/2024 at 1:00pm Lexington, KY time.
