Snow clearance, although scheduled, is based on past experience, weather forecasts and visual assessments. The city is seeking to know (in real time) the amount of snow on these roofs in order to measure the stresses on the structural trusses and thus be able to adjust and optimise the snow removal programme to specific needs, according to predetermined thresholds. In anticipation of monitoring the amount of snow on some of the roofs in its building stock, Quebec City is seeking information from companies in the field of measurement sensors. This information concerns the industry's ability to offer an optimal solution for snow removal from roofs.
