This is a service / maintenance or supply contract in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. Contact the soliciting agency for additional information.

Reference Number 0000277147 The 40 MW Whitehorse Generating Station (WGS) is critical to the Corporations 132.5 MW generation portfolio. Other facilities include an additional 52 MW of hydro generation (Aishihik and Mayo), 31 MW of Diesel generation, 8.8 MW of LNG units and 0.7 MW of wind generation. The generating facilities are connected to Corporation's power grid which covers central and southern Yukon and operates isolated from the main North American electricity grid. WGS is located alongside the Yukon River just 2 minutes away from the Whitehorse downtown core. The plant was constructed in 1956 when the first two units (WH1 and WH2) each with a capacity of 5.8 MW went into operation. A third unit (WH3), 8.4 MW in capacity, was added to the Whitehorse powerhouse in 1969. The power intakes are located at the end of a channel approximately 500 m long located on the left side of the dam and spillway. Three penstocks connect the power intakes to the powerhouse (WH0 or P125). A second powerhouse was completed in 1984 with a single 20 MW generating unit (WH4). The intake of powerhouse WH4 (or P127) is located at the dam on the left side of the spillway, with a short penstock leading down to the powerhouse. A tailrace channel approximately 500 m long, directs flow from the powerhouse back into the river on the right side of the WHO powerhouse. The downstream end of the tailrace has a fish screen structure whereby screens are installed in the summer to prevent fish from entering the WH4 tailrace. Units WH1 and WH2 are equipped with adjustable blade Kaplan turbines, and WH3 and WH4 have fixed blade propeller turbines. WGS has a gross head of approximately 19 m and a maximum discharge of 275 m³/s. The plant operates as a run-of-river facility although there is some water control available at the Marsh Lake Control Structure upstream of the plant. Figure 1 shows the WGS facility.
