The Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM) is negotiating the sale of a large portion of municipally owned waterfront property for a large-scale mixed-use development. This sale highlights the municipality's commitment to economic development and urban revitalization. As the result of this sale, CBRM is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to develop a comprehensive Waterfront Master Plan for the remaining publicly owned waterfront land. This plan will guide the transformation of the waterfront into a vibrant, accessible, and sustainable space that serves the local community, cruise ship passengers, and tourists. The plan should integrate programmable space, vendor areas, parks, and playgrounds while ensuring accessibility, sustainability, and beautification. This initiative builds on the Sydney Harbourfront Conceptual Vision & Design adopted in 2014, aiming to foster small-scale economic development and enhance recreational opportunities.
