So far, the foundation has received a $25,000 grant from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation. VEC has also promised to donate $10,000 to the project. The current playground at Baker will be removed for the construction of the new gymnasium. The HERD foundation is hoping to raise enough money to break ground on the new playground at this time next year. The total cost for the all-inclusive playground is about $385,000. “Playgrounds are very important for children,” said Elizabeth Haddle, of the HERD Foundation. “It gives them that pent-up energy, you know, they can release it out there. It also gives social interaction, team building, creative imagination — there’s a lot that having a playground really helps a child have.” The HERD Foundation is kicking off the HERD Brick Project in October to help raise money for the playground project.
