Site work for a road / highway in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Design plans call for site work for a road / highway.
Construction of a 200-kilometre, 500-kilovolt transmission line between the Hanmer Transformer Station (TS) in the Greater Sudbury area and the Mississagi Transformer Station near Wharncliffe. The project is planned to be in-service by 2029. Project construction will involve the following activities: Site preparation including vegetation clearing and grading of the ROW and all ancillary areas (e.g., access roads, laydown areas, camps); Upgrading (including potential widening of) existing, and development of new access roads with gravel; Installation of tower foundations; Assembly and construction of transmission structures; Stringing new transmission conductors (wires) and skywire on structures and installation of associated equipment (e.g., insulators); Reconfiguration and expansion at both Mississagi TS and Hanmer TS, involving the installation of circuit breakers, line terminations, autotransformers, and associated in-station equipment/components; and Clean up and site restoration. TIMELINE: The notice of completion of the final environmental report has been issued. The owner has filed a leave-to-construct application with the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) to seek approval to build the transmission line. Section 92 approval from the Ontario Energy Board is anticipated in spring, 2027. Construction is expected to start in early 2027. The total project cost is estimated at $1.8B.
