The Town of Boones Mill seeks proposals from qualified engineering professionals experienced in performing flood mitigation drainage studies and providing design alternatives for flood mitigation. To successfully compete on this project, the Contractor must demonstrate a strong understanding of the Town of Boones Mill and the proposed site, knowledge of federal and state regulations, experience working with government agencies or entities, and the ability to provide the services the project dictates. Bisected by Maggodee Creek, Boones Mill is prone to flooding during moderate and heavy rain events. Several of the Town's main thoroughfares are parallel to the creek. Some areas of the creek bank have extreme erosion, causing standing water, roadway debris, and water damage to properties and infrastructure. The aging stormwater drainage system in the downtown business district is woefully inadequate to handle moderate rain events, causing ponding and water flow in the roadway and on sidewalks. To rectify these hazardous situations and prevent future damage, the Town will contract with a qualified engineering firm to conduct a Flood Mitigation and Drainage study. The study will evaluate approximately 1.48 miles of the Maggodee Creek stream banks, tributaries, public infrastructure, and private property along the stream banks, including an analysis of the Town's drainage system capacity, inflow and outflow infrastructure, and overall system condition. The contractor will include recommendations for the best solutions to alleviate future flooding that is currently damaging infrastructure and properties and preventing development in the study area. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded the town a flood mitigation assistance grant through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) for the Boones Mill Flood Mitigation Drainage Study EMP-2022-FM-008-0001. As funded, the federal share is 75% of total project costs, and the local share is 25%. The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
