The City of Boston's Climate Ready Boston initiative, in collaboration with the Planning Department, is committed to addressing the immediate and near-term impacts of climate change, particularly those related to coastal flooding. As part of this commitment, the City seeks proposals from qualified respondents to conduct a comprehensive technical and benefit-cost analysis and provide design and implementation guidance for interim flood protection measures in prioritized, low-lying areas. The budget for the project is $250,000. The duration for this Project shall not exceed April 30, 2025. Execution of the resulting contract will be contingent on availability of funds. This project builds upon existing planning documents, completed projects, and in-progress initiatives led by Climate Ready Boston, the Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), and the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The selected respondent will collaborate closely with these entities to ensure alignment with ongoing efforts and to leverage existing data and expertise. Based on existing knowledge and vulnerability assessments, City teams have identified several priority sites for consideration. These sites range from single parcels, such as Main Street / 425 Medford Street in Charlestown, to stretches of harborfront, such as Bennington Street in East Boston near the Revere Border, to inland properties, such as 400 Frontage Road. Following an analysis of these and several other locations, the selected consultant will develop designs for 2-3 of these locations, to be selected in consultation with City staff. These locations are subject to change based on the respondent's further technical and benefit-cost analysis. They can include low-lying neighborhoods, critical infrastructure, city properties and other important community assets.
