The Township of Ignace owns an aerodrome that has seen limited or no use over the past few years. The facility includes a terminal building, a 3,300-foot by 75-foot asphalt runway, a fuel station, an asphalt taxiway, and a large asphalt terminal tarmac. Currently, the aerodrome sits vacant and is not maintained. To bring the facility back to operational status, runway lights must be replaced, and extensive repairs are needed for the facilities and asphalt surfaces. Although the runway requires repairs, it is in a salvageable condition and only needs crack sealing and surface treatment. The aerodrome is located approximately 2.5 kilometers west of the Township boundaries, providing potential strategic value due to its proximity to major transportation routes and industrial areas. Given its location, the aerodrome has the potential to serve as a key asset for local economic development, whether maintained as an aerodrome or repurposed for alternative uses such as industrial, commercial, or residential development. Extensive field testing of the aerodrome is not required or requested in this study. The Township will provide existing asset condition data to assist with base costing. Input on feasibility does not require in-person interviews; information can be obtained through online tools such as questionnaires, polls, or surveys (e.g., Survey Monkey). The Township seeks proposals from qualified consultants ("the Consultant") to determine the feasibility of operating the aerodrome or if the property would be more suitable and beneficial to the Township if developed for industrial, commercial, or residential uses. This study will guide the Township in deciding the most viable and sustainable option for the property, considering potential costs, benefits, and impacts on municipal taxation.
