Renovation of a detention facility in Hay River, Northwest Territories. Completed plans call for the renovation of a detention facility.

The South Mackenzie Correctional Centre (SMCC) has an outdated analog radio system. A digital system is required. Updates with Real Time Locating System (RTLS) coverage is preferred for interior and exterior programs areas and internal building access points. The upgraded system will provide enhanced security as an analog system does not allow for RTLS and has limited capabilities. This project consists of the design and configuration required to replace the current radio system with an integrated digital radio system with encryption capability. It includes a RTLS that uses Bluetooth beacons which interface with the two-way radio system. This will allow facility personnel to be monitored for location. A digital system will require a new radio repeater with an internet protocol connectivity module. The project will design, procure and install RTLS utilizing radios which use a combination of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and smart sensors. New network wiring will be required. Proposed coverage engineering should provide a minimum ten-foot accuracy of location in the facility. Additional areas to be included for transmission and coverage are the therapeutic community out buildings to monitor employees as they are out of the main building but still with inmates and fleet vehicles during escorts.
