The HHS campus is located at 701 Park Avenue, in Minneapolis, Minnesota and occupies over 3.34 million square feet across eight city blocks. Starting in 2019 HHS began acquiring the properties directly adjacent to the campus including the Parkside Building and the Blue Hospital Ramp with the intent on demolishing the outdated structures and constructing a new in-patient bed tower. Previous studies of access and parking resulted in the identification of a need to construct a 1,000-space parking structure to offset the impact of demolishing the Blue Hospital Ramp. After a thorough survey of assets, it was determined that the site straddling Centennial Place Street, Chicago Avenue to the east, 9th street on the north and 10th Street on the south would best suit the needs of the campus in terms of access and convenience for patients and staff and alignment with the land use strategy including access to future medical buildings. The HHS Parking Ramp Replacement project in part includes a multi-level above grade structure for approximately 1,000 vehicles, liner space shelled for future build out, building envelope screening of structure and vehicles, skyway connection to the HHS Clinic and Specialty Center and climate action initiatives including photovoltaic array, stormwater retention, electric vehicle charging stations, bicycle parking and sustainable landscaping. Hennepin County is currently working through the entitlements with the City of Minneapolis including Right of Way Vacation and Land Use permits for the selected site. Hennepin County expects to successfully complete these processes by April 2025.
