This growth will include a new City Hall/Library/Community Complex. The current City Hall houses 14 employees in four functions and provides triple booked conference rooms and formal meeting space for the City Council, Planning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and Tree Board. Two Library facilities exist separated by three city blocks, placing an added strain on the efficiencies of staffing, utilities, insurance, maintenance and upkeep. As Gretna experiences growth for years to come, this building/space must be designed to scale with the community as it continues to evolve and expand. Gretna has a desire to maintain its community feel, therefore part of the project will be providing meeting, working, and gathering space for the growing community. Property is purchased for the Complex by the City and consists of a 35-acre parcel located between Highway 6, north of Jansen Drive, and Gretna Crossing Park . The Complex, as an extension of Gretna Crossing Park, is envisioned to maintain an open and welcoming feel. To accomplish this, key components of the Complex shall include: Community Hub, Library, City Hall, meeting spaces, maker's space, parking, city park connections, and outdoor programming space.
