Saving Project...

Site work for a civil project in Detroit, Michigan. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) requests bids from construction companies ("Contractor") to complete the Replacement of Storm Water Pumps 3 & 7 at the Conner Creek Storm Pump Station as summarized in the "Scope of Work" in Attachment 1 in accordance with the Drawings and Specifications. The Conner Creek Storm Pump Station was constructed in the 1920's and has a firm pumping capacity of 2.2 billions of gallons per day (BGD ). There are two 14-foot diameter sewers that convey both sanitary sewage (dry weather) and stormwater (wet weather) to the station. During wet weather, if flow exceeds the adjacent sanitary station pumping capacity, the Conner Creek Storm Pump Station is activated to pump the excess flow to the Conner Creek CSO Facility (CCCSO). Operation of the Storm Pump Station is critical to prevent flooding of area residences and businesses and protect water quality in the Detroit River. The Conner Creek Storm Water Pumps sit above the wet well water surface. Because of this, they must be vacuum-primed to pump. The vacuum priming process is complex and can be time-consuming, resulting in extended startup times. The configuration of the wet well results in turbulence and air entrainment at the pump suction, which can impede the priming process and affect pump operation. There is no means to isolate the wet well from the two influent sewers making maintenance challenging. This Project includes the replacement of two of the stormwater pumps with pumps that will not require priming on startup and intake flow conditioning improvements for the remaining six pumps to improve suction conditions. To facilitate these improvements, construction of storm wet well isolation structures on the two influent sewers are also included as part of this Project. Only one storm water pump is permitted to be taken out of service at a time, as the station's firm pumping capacity must be maintained. The station has a single wet well. All Work in the wet well (such as demolition of pump suction cones, and installation of intake flow conditioners and replacement pumps) is restricted to the dryer period of the year and can only be performed during dry weather conditions. In the event of wet weather, the wet well must be returned to service and the drywell protected from potential flooding due to surcharging, for the duration of the event. Question Deadline 11/20/2024 at 12:00 PM ET All questions must be sent through Online Portal. The Work is located at the Conner Creek Storm Pump Station, 12244 E. Jefferson Ave., Detroit, MI 48215.
