The City of Bardstown debuted its plans for its new indoor aquatic and recreation center. The new facility will be 80,000 square feet and is estimated to cost between $35 million and $40 million. The city has raised about $6 million in private donations for the project. The Bardstown Aquatic and Sports Center is set to feature both indoor and outdoor spaces that cater to the diverse interests of the community: Indoor Aquatic Center: The facility will include a recreational pool complete with water slides and a play area, as well as a lap-swimming pool for those looking to train or enjoy leisurely swims. Multipurpose Courts: Equipped for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, the athletic courts will provide ample space for both organized sports leagues and casual play. Indoor Walking Track: For those seeking a climate-controlled space to walk or jog, the center will feature a modern indoor walking track, perfect for year-round fitness. Community Programming Spaces: Dedicated areas within the building will allow for a variety of community classes and activities, making the center a true gathering place for Nelson County residents. In addition to its indoor amenities, the Bardstown Aquatic and Sports Center will offer: Playground: An outdoor playground where children can enjoy active play in a safe environment. Splash Pad: A fun, water-filled play area for families to enjoy during the warmer months. Pavilion: A versatile outdoor pavilion that will provide shade and serve as a community meeting and event space. As of November 12, 2024, City officials expect to be moving dirt on the project in early 2025, with a targeted completion date of late 2026.
