(WIVT/WBGH) – A capital improvement plan for Vestal Central School District barely passed yesterday even though the district had stripped out the proposal’s most controversial element. By a vote of 287 to 260, Vestal residents approved the nearly $40 million Capital Improvement Project that would install air conditioning at Vestal Hills and Clayton Avenue elementaries and at the high school. It also includes the installation of lights at Sammon Field, a video scoreboard at Dick Hoover Stadium, and upgrades to the sound system and lighting in the high school auditorium. Pulled from the original proposal was a plan to convert the recreational soccer fields at Ross Corners Park into a new bus garage. The district had argued that it needed more space than available at the current location which is on the high school campus in order to install sufficient charging systems to comply with a state mandate to transition to electric-powered school buses. Following a vocal outcry by recreational soccer organizations and some elected officials, the district removed the bus garage from the capital improvement project. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Vestal Central School District invites sealed bids, in duplicate, for their Capital Improvement Projects throughout District facilities consisting of Site, General Trades, Roofing, Electrical, HVAC, and Plumbing Prime Contractors. The buildings under this project are Sr. High School, Clayton Ave. Elementary, Glenwood Elementary, Vestal Hills Elementary, Tioga Hills Elementary, African Road Middle School, and CJR administration. All questions prior to bid opening must be received by 12pm on November 20, 2024. Tioga Hills - Roofing, Wireless Access Controls, Abatement, Interior Finishes, HVAC, Boiler, and Sitework. Clayton Ave - Roofing, Wireless Access Controls, Abatement, and Interior Finishes. High School - Scoreboards (Baseball, Pool, Basketball), Wireless Access Controls, Cell Phone Repeater and Amplifier, Elevator Modernization, New HVAC and Gas pipe, Auditorium Theatrical lighting and sound, Interior Finishes, and Boilers. Glenwood - Roofing, Wireless Access Controls, Abatement, Interior Finishes, New Boiler, HVAC, Gym Backstops, and Sitework. African Road - Sitework, Interior Demo and Finishes, Wireless Access Controls, HVAC, Auditorium House Lighting, Cell Phone Repeater and Amplifier. Central Jr. - Sitework and Electrical Service Work. Vestal Hills- Sitework, Fencing, and Boiler Flue piping repair. CONTRACT No. #5: Prime Contract- Roofing 1. Provide all labor, material, supervision, equipment, scaffolding, layout, engineering, deliveries, trucking, hoisting, rigging, shop drawings, submittals, and all other items related and required to complete all work in accordance with the Contract Documents but is not limited to, the following: 2.
