Site work for a transportation facility in Chicago, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a transportation facility.

Concourse Improvement Project Project Delivery Method: Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) The Work of the Project is defined by the Contract Documents and includes, but is not limited to, the following: The Concourse Improvement Project will modernize the Chicago Union Station (CUS) Concourse Building, improving functionality and increasing capacity Chicago Union Station comprised of two separate structures: the Headhouse Building and the Concourse Building. The Concourse Building is located at 225 S Canal Street, which is below the street/grade level and under 222 South Riverside Plaza, 444 W Jackson Blvd, and the Riverwalk. The Concourse Building consists of street-level entrances, a mezzanine level with retail and circulation, a concourse level at which passengers access all trains, and a basement level containing crew quarters and rail support spaces. CUS is a crucial transportation hub and economic driver for the City of Chicago and region. It is the third busiest passenger railroad terminal in the United States and Amtrak's busiest station outside the Northeast Corridor. The Amtrak-owned station provides access to 16 different Amtrak intercity rail lines and six of Chicago's Metra commuter rail lines. Passengers must navigate the tight, cavernous concourse level of the concourse building to and from their trains. Improvements to the Concourse Building will create a safe, modern and enjoyable customer experience that will allow Amtrak to grow ridership and increase passenger satisfaction. Challenges Addressed by Project: 1. During peak periods the Concourse building operates at or over capacity, making it potentially unsafe for existing ridership levels and unsustainable to accommodate increased ridership. 2. Much of the equipment and finishings in the Concourse are at or beyond the end of their useful life. 3. Amtrak passenger boarding often conflicts with flow of commuter passengers. 4. Wayfinding around and within the buildings is sparse and inconsistent, and signage does not meet accessibility code requirements. 5. The concourse is deficient in providing modern passenger amenities and does not sufficiently accommodate passengers with disabilities. The CUS Concourse Improvement Project is intended to alleviate the congestion that currently exists in the concourse between the north and south platforms, at the mezzanine level, and points of vertical circulation throughout the Concourse Building. The project will also improve operations throughout the Concourse. The preliminary project scope includes removal of unused or underutilized spaces at the concourse level and the mezzanine level with the goal of improving sightlines, circulation, operational efficiency, and customer experience in the heart of the station. The project will also replace or upgrade existing facilitates that will remain. This is a multi-year project scheduled to run through FY 2029. It is imperative that the station remain operational during all phases of construction.
