The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: 3.5 Acres of Clearing & Grubbing, 21,200 CY of Class 10 Excavation (On-site), 1,200 CY of Class 10 Excavation (Off-site Borrow), 4,500 CY of On-Site Topsoil, Restore Storm Sewer Pipes/Aprons/Footings, 1,020 SY of Removing Existing Bituminous Trail, 16,894 SY of Erosion Control Matting, 2,000 LF of Silt Fence, 10,000 LF of Wattles, Staging Area Restoration, 6.75 Acres of Vegetation Restoration and Establishment, 3677 SY of Turf Reinforcement Matting (TRM), 750 TON of Class E Revetment, Rock Riffles, J-Hooks, W-Weirs, Root Wads, 825 LF of Toe Wood, Restoring Existing Oxbow Wetland, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. One set of bidding documents for the above project is available without charge to prospective bidders, i.e. qualified general contractors. A $20.00 fee will apply to additional sets and to bidding documents requested by other than prospective bidders as defined herein. The City of Ames Public Works Department is the only authorized source of bidding documents and proposal forms. Bidding documents and proposal forms obtained from any other source may have an incomplete set of documents. Bidders using bidding documents and/or proposal forms not obtained from the City of Ames Public Works Department are advised to contact the City of Ames Public Works Department to provide a contact name, mailing address, and phone number to enable receipt of necessary addenda. Reproduction of these documents without the express permission of the City of Ames is prohibited. Davis-Bacon Act DOES NOT APPLY to this Project. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving. Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Work shall be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of December 31, 2025. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City.
