The Quad portion of the project encompasses 7 acres of landscape set within the main buildings on campus. New student pavilions used for performances and entertainment will play a crucial role in student lives and wellbeing. The existing stormwater drainage systems will be replaced with open air garden-like features or acequias. These linear sunken spaces will also convey water towards a rainwater harvesting cistern which repurposes the water for irrigation use. All new hardscapes and furnishings take place throughout the Quad, creating opportunities for outdoor learning and socializing while the addition of new tree bosques offers respite from the sun. The Maple Street Entrance portion of the project covers more than 17 acres, highlighted by a reconfigured vehicular and pedestrian entry sequence featuring a large roundabout with institutional signage. The addition of bus loading zones further the public transportation connectivity to the university. Large stormwater swales are reconstructed to help alleviate the risk of flooding. Both vehicle and pedestrian safety are increased with clearly articulated routes which converge at the new front entrance to the university.
