Site work and paving for a civil project in Portland, Maine. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; road / highway; and road / highway.

The work consists of bridge repairs at three locations. At the Beech Ridge Road Underpass in the town of York, the work generally consists of bridge curb and bridge deck coating and bridge joint seal repairs. At the New County Road Underpass in the town of Saco, the work generally consists of bridge and approach mill and overlay paving, bridge joint repairs, header installation, girder haunch removal, and miscellaneous superstructure and substructure repairs. At the Route 9/Middle Road Underpass in the town of Falmouth, the work generally consists of bridge joint repairs, header installation, and miscellaneous superstructure repairs. The work also includes maintenance of traffic and all other work incidental thereto in accordance with the Plans and Specifications. Bridge Repairs Beech Ridge Road Underpass (Mm 4.80) New County Road Underpass (Mm 34.40) Route 9/middle Road Underpass (Mm Fs 3.70) Bids will be accepted from Contractors prequalified by the Maine Department of Transportation for Bridge Construction Projects. All other bids may be rejected. This Project includes a wage determination developed by the State of Maine Department of Labor. Proposals must be accompanied by an original bid bond, certified or cashier's check payable to the Maine Turnpike Authority in an amount not less than Five (5%) Percent of the Total Amount in the Proposal, but not less than $500.00. The Bidder to whom a Contract is awarded will be required to furnish a Surety Corporation Bond, satisfactory to the Authority, on the standard Contract Bond form of the Authority, for a sum not less than the Total Amount of the Proposal. The Authority reserves the unqualified right to reject any or all Proposals and to accept that Proposal which in its sole judgment will under all circumstances serve its best interest. Document Note: Plans and Contract Documents may be examined by prospective Bidders weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the office of the Maine Turnpike Authority, 2360 Congress Street, Portland, Maine. The following sentences are added: This work shall also consist of removing the surface of the bituminous concrete pavement in all locations to the depth, width, grade, and cross section on the mainline as shown on the Plans or as directed by the Resident. Full-depth removal of the pavement from the bridge decks shall be completed by scraping or other methods that will not damage the existing concrete deck surface. Milling of bridge deck pavement shall not be allowed for full-depth removal. Removal of approach pavement and partial depth bridge pavement shall be completed using a milling machine meeting the requirements in the first two paragraphs of section 202.061. Areas requiring shim pavement to reach final pavement grade shall not be milled. This work shall also consist of construction of temporary ramps at all butt joints as shown in the MaineDOT Standard Details, November 2020 Edition - Pavement Overlay Butt Joint Detail (Roadways), Page 202(01) or as approved by the Resident. The length of the temporary ramp shall be at least 1/2 L. This Subsection is deleted and replaced with the following: This work consists of furnishing and applying one uniform application of Emulsified Asphalt RS-1 or RS-1h conforming to the specifications of AASHTO M-140. The application rate shall be 0.04 gal/yd 2 This work consists of furnishing and applying one uniform application of UltraTack (NTSS-1HM) by Blacklidge or an approved equal as indicated in this specification and as per manufacturers' recommendation. The application rate shall be 0.06 gal/yd 2 The work shall include the surface preparation and application of a clear protective coating on concrete surfaces to protect new cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete and masonry structures. The coating system shall be applied to transition barriers, curbs, fascia and substructure in accordance with the Plans, Specifications and the manufacturer's published recommendations. The work shall include the surface preparation and application of a broadcast sealant on concrete surfaces to the concrete wearing surface of the Beech Ridge Road Underpass bridge deck. The coating system shall be applied to the slab wearing surface in accordance with the Plans, Specifications and the manufacturer's published recommendations. The following paragraphs are added: The work includes resealing existing construction joints as described below. At New County Road Underpass and Middle Road Underpass, reseal deteriorated joints between adjacent sections of concrete parapet and between the parapet and curb as shown on the Plans and as directed by the Resident. The following paragraph is added: At the New County Road Underpass and Route 9/Middle Road Underpass, the work includes placement of new elastomeric concrete at the deck expansion joints, as shown on the Plans and as directed by the Resident. The work also includes removal of any areas of deteriorated concrete at the top of the backwall and preparation of the concrete surface in accordance with Supplemental Specification 518 and as directed by the Resident. If the repair depth is greater than 6 inches from the top of the proposed header, the repair and header may be done in accordance with Special Provision 518 (Concrete Header Repair), as directed by the Resident. At the New County Road Underpass and Route 9/Middle Road Underpass, the work includes placement of a new concrete header and concrete repair to the existing backwall and/or deck below the proposed headers at the deck expansion joints, as shown on the Plans and as directed by the Resident. The work also includes removal of any areas of deteriorated concrete at the top of the backwall and/or deck and preparation of the concrete surface in accordance with Supplemental Specification 518 and as directed by the Resident. If the repair depth is less than 6 inches from the top of the proposed header, the work shall include placement of new elastomeric concrete in accordance with Special Provision 518 (Elastomeric Concrete Header Repair). If the depth of repair is greater than 6 inches from the top of the proposed header, AAA concrete may be used for the repair and the header in accordance with this Special Provision and at the direction of the Resident. This work consists of repairing the joint seal at both of the bridge joints at the Beech Ridge Road Underpass and Route 9/Middle Road Underpass as shown on the Plans, in accordance with these Specifications or as directed by the Resident. The work generally includes supplying and placing a pourable sealant along the existing joint seals. This work consists of plug welds at the existing joint armor at the Route 9/Middle Road Underpass as shown on the Plans, in accordance with these Specifications or as directed by the Resident. The work generally includes installing plug welds into any joint armor drilled holes not currently welded along the existing joint armor angles. At the New County Road Underpass the work shall consist of furnishing and installing a waterproof expansion joint at both abutments in accordance with the details shown on the plans and the requirements of this specification. Preformed sealant shall be silicone pre-coated, preformed, pre-compressed, self-expanding, sealant system. The work shall also consist of removing the existing compression seal and filling the existing joint extrusions, including any required surface preparation, as shown in the Plans and as directed by the Resident. This work shall consist of loading, transporting,setting, resetting, removing, transporting and stacking Temporary Concrete Barrier Type I - Supplied by Authority. The barrier shall have attachments allowing individual sections to be connected into a continuous barrier. The work also includes supplying connecting pins and furnishing and mounting retroreflective delineators, per Subsection 526.02 and 526.03. Concrete barriers supplied by Authority shall be available at the following location(s): Maintenance Area Linear Feet of Barrier Crosby Maintenance Area Mile 45.8 Southbound 290 Upon substantial completion of work, the Contractor shall remove and transport the barrier back to its maintenance area of origin. All barrier shall be returned, sorted and stacked according to type in locations directed by the project Resident or maintenance area foreman. The Contractor shall furnish and install, or reset work zone crash cushions where shown on the Plans, as specified herein, in Special Provision 652, or as approved by the Resident. Work zone crash cushions are required at each exposed end of temporary concrete barrier or guardrail. The exposed end of the concrete barrier within 30 feet of the mainline travel lane shall be protected at all times. Barrier shall not be reset until after the work zone crash cushion(s) has been set to protect the exposed end of the barrier. This work shall consist of furnishing and placing the final pavement markings at locations as shown on the Plans or as directed by the Resident. The following sentence is added: This work shall consist of furnishing and placing pavement marking paint and temporary pavement marking paint at locations as shown on the Plans or as directed by the Resident. This work shall consist of furnishing, installing, maintaining and removing traffic control devices necessary to provide reasonable protection for motorists, pedestrians and construction workers in accordance with these Specifications, the applicable provisions of Section 105.4.5 - Special Detours, and the plans. Traffic control devices include signs, signals, lighting devices, markings, barricades, channelizing, and hand signaling devices, portable light towers, truckmounted impact attenuators, portable rumble strips, portable speed trailers, sequential warning lights, traffic officers, and flaggers.
