BACKGROUND AND PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Bureau of Engineering (BOE), Geotechnical Engineering Division (GED) is requesting a Task Order (TO) Proposal from a consulting firm (Consultant) for the Warner Grand Theatre Renovations Project (Project). The Project site, as shown on Figure 1 - Vicinity Map, is located near the West (W) 6th Street and Pacific Avenue intersection in the San Pedro area. The Project address is 478 W 6th Street, San Pedro, CA 90731. The GED is the Geotechnical Engineer of Record for the Project. The Project includes construction of two elevators within the existing Warner Grand Theatre. The approximate locations of the proposed elevators are shown on Figure 2 - Site Location Map. The proposed northwestern elevator will provide access to four stories, and its footprint will extend (i.e. encroach) approximately 4 feet into the adjacent north alley. The proposed northwestern elevator construction may extend up to approximately 20 feet below the adjacent grade in the alley. The proposed northwestern elevator will require construction of basement retaining walls and a foundation. The proposed southeastern elevator will provide access to two stories; one at the basement level and one at the stage level. The southeastern elevator will not require a new foundation. A portion of the existing concrete slab-on-grade (SOG) floor will be demolished and replaced with a new one. The elevator will be supported on the new SOG, which will be structurally connected to the existing floor slab on the adjacent sides. SCOPE OF SERVICES The GED requires a consultant with an experienced team to work under our direct supervision on an as-needed basis. The Consultant shall provide geotechnical observation and testing services during construction. The GED will provide a minimum of 24 hours of notice to the Consultant from the time the Deputy Grading Inspector (DGI) is required to report to the Project site. A Field Technician is also required for this Project. The work will likely demand a relatively quick response time. The DGI and Field Technician shall only make site visits when instructed to by the GED. The Consultant shall not be paid for non-consecutive inspection visits that are not authorized by the GED. If the DGI / Field Technician is late or otherwise cannot conduct inspections as scheduled, the GED Project Manager shall be informed immediately. Although it is our intention to move forward, the City always retains the right to award or to not award any part or all of the Task Order (TO) based solely on its convenience and shall not be responsible for any solicitation response costs.
