Site work for a road / highway in Silverton, Colorado. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway.

PROJECT LOCATION The Burns Gulch Project is located near the town of Silverton in San Juan County. This includes a total of eleven (11) hazardous mine openings. Six (6) of the features are in Burns Gulch, 10 miles north of Silverton along County Road 2. Two (2) features are in Minnie Gulch, 9 miles north of Silverton along County Road 2. One (1) feature is located at the head of Dry Gulch, 7 miles northwest of Silverton up Cement Creek Road. Lastly, two (2) features are off Highway 550, 2.5 miles south of Silverton, on the King Claim. WORK SUMMARY This project will safeguard a total of eleven (11) features: eight (8) adits and three (3) shafts/stopes. Closure methods for the hazardous mine openings include three (3) corrugated steel pipe (CSP) closures with access hatches and bat ladders; one (1) rock bulkhead closure with a bat ladder and access hatch; one (1) cable net shaft closure; one (1) steel grated shaft closure with a bat ladder and access; one (1) polyurethane foam (PUF) closure with access; and four (4) steel grated adit closures, all with bat ladders, and all but one (1) will also have access hatches. Finally, two (2) ineffective steel structures will need to be removed. Detailed descriptions of the feature work list are provided below. Bid specifications for the closure methods listed in this project may be found in the Colorado Inactive Mine Reclamation Program General Bid Specifications, 2009. The bid specifications and additional applicable documents will be provided via the Google Drive link below. The use of a helicopter to supply equipment and materials is recommended for Dry Gulch and permitted for Minnie Gulch. Helicopter delivery is not permitted for the Burns Gulch features. Features in this project are located on private lands and lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
