A firm timeline for construction has not been determined. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Lowell National Historical Park's 1.5-mile trolley system has been in operation for 30+ years in its current form. The trolley system is a small remnant of the historic trolley system from the era of the mills at the National Historic Site. The trolley system is currently in a general state of good repair. However, portions of the trolley system are reaching their end-of-life in which critical component renewals will be needed in addition to enhanced preventative maintenance activities. The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT), John A. Volpe National Transportation Systems Center (Volpe Center), Cambridge, MA, is conducting market research to identify small business concerns for the design of a new Wye that provides a switching area for the trolley to transit from the carbarn to either the Swamp Locks platform or to the Suffolk Platform; and allows the trolley to transit from the Swamp Locks run to the Suffolk track run for the Park's Historical Trolley System. The Contractor shall also confer with the City of Lowell Engineering Office to review and incorporate Father Morrisett Blvd redesign - the installation of the Wye shall conform to meet the City's plans for rehabilitation efforts behind the High School. Note: No As-Built drawings exist for this trolley system. So, all critical dimensions and material data must be field verified.
