Site work and paving for a civil project in Canton, Massachusetts. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; bridge / tunnel; and bridge / tunnel.
Location: Canton - Dedham - Milton - Randolph - Westwood Pavement and Bridge Preservation on I-95 and I-93 SCOPE OF WORK This project consists of resurfacing I-495 in Westford. The Southern limit is at the pavement joint located about 150 feet north of the bridge (W-26-019) over Boston Road (Mile Marker 83.33). The Northern limit of the project is at the pavement joints located at about 50 FT north of the Westford / Chelmsford Town Line on I-495 SB (Mile Marker 85.02) and at about 800 FT north of the Westford/Chelmsford Town Line on I-495 NB (Mile Marker 85.18). The total length of this project is approximately 1.85 miles. The limits of work include the ramps to/from Boston Road. The work to be done primarily consists of replacing the existing OGFC with UTBO (Ultra-Thin Bonded Overlay). The mainline shall be milled 1 inch to remove the existing OGFC and paved with 0.75 inches of UTBO-P (Ultra-Thin Bonded Overlay - Polymer Modified). The ramps shall be milled 2 inches and paved with 2 inches of Superpave Surface Course - 12.5 - Polymer. The proposed paving shall meet the existing pavement at ramps/bridges/project limits through 75 ft paving transitions from 0.75 inches to 1 inch. The bridge decks and buffers over Tadmuck Road shall only be crack-sealed. Recessed pavement markings, preformed tape, and reflectors shall be installed throughout the project. Related work includes clearing; adjusting and rebuilding drainage structures; replacing damaged frames and grates/covers within the traveled way with locking frames and grates/covers; cleaning out drainage structures, drainage piping, and drainage outfalls and replacing Pedestrian Curb Ramps and Crosswalks within the project limits. This project is proposed to occur within the buffer zones of natural watercourses and bordering vegetated wetlands. Prior to construction, sediment control barriers will be installed to protect and prevent encroachment into environmentally sensitive areas. Emergency work orders may be included as required by the Engineer, when the work must commence immediately and cannot be regularly scheduled as part of the ongoing operations, for safety reasons The Contractor has to response within 4 hours of the notification by the department. All work shall be performed within the existing Town and/or State Highway Layout Lines. No rights to enter upon or occupy private property have been acquired. GBP MmassachuasettssDepasrtmeDnt or TraOnsportatTion Massachusetts Department Of Transportation W B Highway Division Highway Division Proposal No. 612096-129074 A00801 - 2 SCOPE OF WORK (Continued) All work under this Contract shall be done in conformance with the 2024 Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges, the Supplemental Specifications contained in this book, the 2017 Construction Standard Details, the Traffic Management Plans and Detail Drawings, MassDOT Work Zone Safety Temporary Traffic Control, the 1990 Standard Drawings for Signs and Supports; the 2015 Overhead Signal Structure and Foundation Standard Drawings, the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) with Revisions 1, 2, and 3 and the November 2022 Massachusetts Amendments to the MUTCD; the 1968 Standard Drawings for Traffic Signals and Highway Lighting; The American Standard for Nursery Stock; the Plans and these Special Provisions. SUBSECTION 7.05 INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS B. Public Liability Insurance The insurance requirements set forth in this subsection are in addition to the requirements of the Standard Specifications and supersede all other requirements. Paragraphs 1 and 2 The Massachusetts Department of Transportation and applicable railroads shall be named as additional insureds. WORK SCHEDULE All work on this project is restricted to the work hours listed below with the Contractor and all Subcontractors working on the same shift. Sunday: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Monday Monday: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Tuesday Tuesday: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Wednesday Wednesday: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Thursday Thursday: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM Friday For the mainline, single lane closure (with two through lanes open) will be allowed from 9:00 PM to 5:00 during the above work hours. Double lane closures (with one through lane open) will be allowed from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM during the above work hours. Ramp closures will be allowed from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM during the above work hours. These work hours shall include the setup and breakdown times for all equipment and materials. Beyond these work hours, all travel lanes shall be completely open to vehicular traffic. No work shall be done on legal holidays. Work will not be allowed the day before or the day after a long weekend, which involves a holiday, without the prior written approval of the District Construction Engineer. Should the Contractor wish to modify the work hours, they shall develop a Temporary Traffic Control Plan (TTCP) and submit it to the Engineer and the District Traffic Engineer for the District's comments, corrections, and written approval. No work shall begin until the TTCPs are approved. Any questions received after this time will not be considered for review by the Department.
