Fire Hydrants Fire Hydrants used in the construction of water mains, and replacements thereof, shall be made in accordance with the latest revision of the American Water Works Association Standard, designated C-502. Fire Hydrants shall be constructed such that the main valve closes with the line pressure, and shall open by turning left (counterclockwise). The main valve opening shall be a minimum of five (5) inches and its assembly, including the drain valve assembly, shall be removable through the upper barrel assembly. The main valve seat-ring shall thread into a bronze insert located in the shoe of the hydrant or thread into a bronze drain ring located between the lower barrel and shoe of the hydrant. All bronze or brass parts, in constant contact with water, and all flow characteristics of hydrants offered and supplied shall meet or exceed the requirements of Standard C502. Hydrants shall be rated for 250 psi working pressure. All fire hydrant parts, such as lower barrel, shoe and flanges, shall be constructed in accordance with the latest revisions of Paragraph 3.1 of AWWA Standard C502. The ground line flange is to be located not more than six (6) inches above the finished grade mark of the hydrant for a standard 5 1/2 ' bury. For 6 1/2' hydrants no combination of extensions (above or below grade-solid cast barrel) are permitted to achieve the desired extra length. The connection between the upper and lower barrels of fire hydrants shall be in the form of a traffic safety device that will allow rotation of the upper barrel in any increment from 1 to 180 degrees, in either direction, without disassembly. The hydrant shall be extendable without removing lower barrel. The upper and lower stem shall be joined by a traffic safety stem-coupling which, along with the connection between the upper and lower barrels, will break on traffic impact. The bonnet or top section shall be equipped with a lubricant reservoir or chamber designed such that the operating threads of the stem will, at all times, be totally enclosed. The operating nut shall have a weather shield cast integrally with it or an o-ring seal shall be incorporated in the hydrant cover or top. All pressure seals shall be rubber o-rings. Fire hydrants shall be equipped with a 1 1/2 inch pentagon operating nut and hose nozzle cap removal device; supplied without nozzle cap chains, one - 4 1/2 inch pumper and two - 2 1/2 inch hose nozzles, all on the same plane, and having National Standard Fire hose threads of four (4) and seven and one-half (7 1/2 ) threads per inch, respectively, and shall be threaded to screw into the nozzle section and be securely fastened to prevent rotation; they shall be painted Federal Yellow; the C.D. (oversize) shoe connection for attachment to the water main shall be six (6) inch mechanical joint, complete with accessories, including rubber gaskets and Mega Lug retainer glands, designed to fit both centrifugal and sand cast pipe. Training of fire hydrant maintenance and repair shall also be included, in the form of on site demonstration(s) from low bidder/best bidder TERM OF AGREEMENT: January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025
