Renovation of a theater / auditorium in Iowa City, Iowa. Completed plans call for the renovation of a theater / auditorium.
Project consists of a comprehensive renovation of the Performing Arts Annex to accommodate the Department of Dance, which includes the addition of five dance studios and one warm-up studio, each featuring a sprung floor system. In addition to these dance spaces, the project introduces various essential facilities: nine new office spaces, a conference room, a laundry room, five additional single-user restrooms (two of which include showers), an audio lab, digital equipment storage, and a student lounge. Existing programs within PAX such as the costume shop, costume storage, and security engineering services will be relocated and renovated within the building to meet the new needs. Furthermore, the art storage and custodial services will be moved outside the building to allow space for both the theatre and dance departments. To support the new Costume Storage area, the freight elevator will be replaced with a larger hydraulic passenger elevator. The existing freight elevator shaft will be retained and adapted for the new passenger elevator, with the addition of two columns and a beam at the basement elevator opening. Studio C, which was previously depressed by 4 feet, will be raised using geofoam and a new concrete slab to align it with the rest of the first floor.
