Site work and new construction of a medical facility in Kansas City, Missouri. Working plans call for the construction of a medical facility; and for site work for a medical facility.
Plan is for a new replacement psychiatric hospital. Location would be in the UMKC Health Sciences District. The new hospital will be built near the current site. in the Hospital Hill neighborhood. The project is presented as a 303,614-square-foot facility with at least 200 beds: 100 department beds for people being treated for competency restoration, and 100 University Health beds for individuals needing short-term acute psychiatric care. As of January 16, 2026, this project is in final planning. The project was last seen at a design workshop on Dec 10, 2025. The project will be constructed in partnership with the State of Missouri and University Health. Opening expected in 2028. Design team identified. Construction manager selection is expected in the Spring of 2026. A firm timeline has not been established.
