State Highway 99 (the Grand Parkway) is a proposed 180-mile circumferential highway traversing seven counties in the Greater Houston area. Conceptualized in the early 1960s, it is divided into 11 segments designated A through I-2. SH 99 segments Segment A - Segment A, from SH 146 near San Leon to I-45 South (the Gulf Freeway) in League City through Galveston County, is currently not considered a viable project. However, a general location of where Segment A studies would occur (if the project were ever to be considered viable) is below Segment B - An environmentally approved (not yet constructed) 28-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from I-45 South (the Gulf Freeway) in League City toward SH 35 in Alvin and on to SH 288 (the South Freeway) near Rosharon through Galveston and Brazoria counties. Segment C - An environmentally approved (not yet constructed) 26-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from SH 288 (the South Freeway) near Rosharon to US 59 South (the Southwest Freeway) in Sugar Land, through Brazoria and Fort Bend counties. Segment D - An existing 17.4-mile, partially controlled access toll road from US 59 South (the Southwest Freeway) in Sugar Land north to I-10 West (the Katy Freeway) near Katy. This segment is complete and has been open to the public since Aug. 31, 1994. Mainlane overpasses from US 59 South to the Westpark Tollway were constructed by Fort Bend County and opened to traffic in April 2014. Segment E - An existing 15.2-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from I-10 West (the Katy Freeway) near Katy to US 290 (Northwest Freeway) near Cypress through western Harris County. Segment F-1 - An existing 12.0-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from US 290 (Northwest Freeway) near Cypress to SH 249 (Tomball Parkway) near Tomball through northwest Harris County. Segment F-2 - An existing 12-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from SH 249 (the Tomball Parkway) near Tomball to I-45 North (the North Freeway) near Spring/the Woodlands through northern Harris County. Segment G - An existing 13.7-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from I-45 North (the North Freeway) near Spring/the Woodlands to US 59 North (the Eastex Freeway) in New Caney through northern Harris and southern Montgomery counties. Segments H and I-1 - Segments H and I-1 include 37.5-miles of a controlled access toll facility from I-69/US 59 North (the Eastex Freeway) near New Caney, to US 90 near Dayton, to I-10 East (the East Freeway) near Mont Belvieu. It traverses through Montgomery, Harris, Liberty, and Chambers counties. Starting from its connection to Segment G at I-69/US 59 North, the first 8 miles of Segment H consists of four lanes, two in each direction, located within Montgomery and Harris counties. The remaining portion of Segment H and I-1 consist of two lanes with intermittent four-lane passing sections. Segment I-2 - an environmentally approved 15-mile, four-lane, controlled access toll road with intermittent frontage roads from SH 146 to I-10 East (the East Freeway). As of January 27, 2025, the Fort Bend County has secured $58.6 million in funding from the Houston-Galveston Area Council. Construction on the first segment is set to begin in March 2026, and conclude by the end of 2028. The firm timelines have not been released.
