The current ammonia plant at the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre in Hinton, AB (805 Switzer Drive, T7V 1V1) serves two (2) ice rink services: the Bill Thomson (BTA) and Steve Hotchkiss Arenas (SHA). The majority of the current plant's components are at the end of their lifecycle. Municipal Council has allocated a total project value of one million seven hundred fortythree thousand ($1,743,000.00) dollars Canadian in 2025 to: Safely remove and dispose of the current ammonia plant components Engineer, deliver, install, and set-up a new ammonia plant that includes an exterior skid to keep the ammonia chemical hazard entirely separate from the Dr. Duncan Murray Recreation Centre facility Train the operating staff (union) and supervisory staff (salary) of the Municipality on the operations and maintenance of the new plant following set up and operational hand over Have the new plant installed, set up and ready to operate, as well as the operating staff trained on the new plant by the end of July 2025 so that ice build can commence for August. Update monitoring and alarms, including the call out system for any health and safety concerns, as well as the facility ammonia monitor that tracks parts per million (PPM). The monitors must exclusively track ammonia, and not be triggered by other chemicals.
