The Courville cave is made up of several cavities, three of which are currently accessible (La Lézarde, l'Urbaignoire, Benson-Hall). They form a hydrogeological breakthrough between the right bank of the Marches-Naturelles reservoir and the resurgences of the Chute-Montmorency park. The accessible cavities are almost 1 km long. This network is glaciotectonic in origin, meaning that the initial voids corresponding to Ordovician diaclases were created by the weight and movement of the continental glacier some 14,000 years ago. These voids were taken up by the waters of the Montmorency river, which widened a number of these fractures and transported some of the loose material from these galleries downstream.
