The Water Transmission Main Replacement - Well Site to Mill Street project identified in the City's 2018 Water System Plan is designed to address peak hour demand (PHD) deficiencies and replace the outdated steel main. The proposed project extents are identified in the Vicinity Map, Figure 1 and consists of replacement of 5,000 linear feet (lf) of the existing 12-inch-diameter steel domestic water transmission main with 24-inch-diameter ductile iron (DI) pipe. Following a corrosion evaluation of the initial 930 feet of the existing 24-inch-diameter section, RH2 Engineering Inc., (RH2) recommended beginning the replacement section at the current 12-inch reducer location where the line and service road intersect with Icicle Road. From there, the water main replacement section will extend approximately 4,010 lf along Icicle Road and connect to the previously placed section installed beneath the new roundabout at the intersection of US Highway 2 (US 2). On the east side of the roundabout the water main will extend another 925 feet where it will tee off to new and relatively short, 12-inch-diameter water main sections. This effort aims to ensure the reliable conveyance of water to approximately 3,000 residents served by the City's water system. The geotechnical/geological scope of work included a geologic literature search, reconnaissance and hazards assessment, test pit excavations, laboratory testing and materials assessment, and reporting to include related design and construction recommendations. A separate corrosion protection assessment was performed and fieldwork conducted congruently with the geotechnical field explorations to expose the existing 24-inch water main line between Icicle Road and the Well House.
