Renovation of a power facility in Pickering, Ontario. Completed plans call for the renovation of a power facility.
Retube feeder and boiler replacement program for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station's "B" units. The joint-venture will carry out work for Units 5, 6, 7 and 8 at the nuclear generating station. Scope of work is for "definition phase activities including engineering, procurement of long-lead components, and construction planning for the multi-unit refurbishment". Once refurbished, Pickering would produce more than 2,000 megawatts of electricity, which is equivalent to powering two million homes. TIMELINE: The provincial government has announced the start of construction. Units 5 to 8 will be removed from service by the end of September 2026. With site construction underway, reactor refurbishment work will begin pending final approval from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) in January 2027. Preliminary estimates show the entire refurbishment will be completed by the mid-2030s. Awarded trades will not be released for publication. *Aecon Group Inc. and AtkinsRéalis have been awarded a 2.1 billion contract by Ontario Power Generation (OPG). The Joint-Venture is known as CanAtom Power Group. *The Ontario government is supporting OPG's 4.1 billion budget for this phase of work, bringing the total investment to date in the project to $6.2 billion.
