Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of an educational facility in Akron, Ohio. Design plans call for the demolition of a educational facility; for the construction of a educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.

As of January 29, 2026, the architect is working on the program of requirements needed for the project. A bid schedule has not been determined. The exact construction start time for the project is not lined up yet but could be late 2027 with opening of the new building to be August 2029. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: The Akron City School District intends to contract for architectural and design professional services in connection with the development and construction of a new facilities project to replace the existing North High School at 985 Gorge Blvd., Akron, Ohio 44310. The Project involves the design and construction of a new high school to replace the current North High School. The new North High School will be designed to serve approximately 1,100 students in grades 9-12 along with approximately 150 faculty and staff. The facility will include a gymnasium and an auditorium. The facility will also be designed to support the following career academies and pathways: allied health and healthcare operations, early childhood education including playground facilities, HVAC/R, IT support and programming, and software development. The proposed new building site will be on the existing outdoor athletic fields, and the current North High School facility will remain in use during construction. The Project will also include the abatement and demolition of the current North High School facility once the new building is occupied, as well as the design and replacement of the athletic fields. The District intends to fund the Project with local money, with no involvement from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission. . The current budget for the project is $85 million and includes pre-construction testing and site evaluation, new facility construction, abatement and demolition of the existing building, and design and construction of new athletic fields (including all design professional fees). No geotechnical study has been done. The anticipated scope of design professional services will include providing the following general categories of service: Schematic Design, Design Development, Budgeting and estimating, Construction Documents, Bid and Award Support, Contract Administration, Post-Construction administration, and additional services as identified in the Agreement. Additional Services may include environmental consultant report review, site evaluation, geotechnical investigation, construction testing, and any other services that a competent design professional would expect to provide for the development and construction of a Project like this one. The following represents the general timeline for this Project and will serve as a guide for estimating when Akron Public Schools will require the architectural and design professional services. Review RFQ Responses & Announce Short List March 24, 2025 Conduct Interviews with Short Listed Firms April 10 & 11 2025 Announce Best Value Rankings and Commence Contract Negotiations April 28, 2025 (Board Meeting) Present Design Professional Contract to Board of Education for Approval June 9, 2025 (Board Meeting) Design Phase Begins July 2025 Selection of Construction Manager/Contractor Late 2025, early 2026 Design Phase Completed TBD Bid Openings TBD Groundbreaking Spring 2026 Project Completion Fall 2029 Old Building Demo Fall 2029 New Athletic Fields Start Spring 2030 Statements of qualifications must include information regarding the following evaluation criteria, which the School District will use to select and rank at least 3 Firms in compliance with Ohio Rev. Code 153.65-71: 1. Firm background and history 2. Qualifications and experience of individual team members, including sub-consultants if known 3. Specific experience with school facility construction 4. Specific experience using Construction Manager as Constructor and/or General Contracting forms of Project Delivery for public projects 5. Previous experience with projects for Akron Public Schools 6. Previous experience with public projects 7. Firm resources and ability to meet the needs of this Project 8. Professional References. 9.
