Leo Politi Elementary School's Classroom Replacement Project is a bond-funded initiative to permanently eliminate aging portable/relocatable classroom buildings on campus and replace them with new, modern, permanent construction. It shares its origin story with the Bell High School project we recently profiled — both were approved in the same landmark LAUSD Board action in June 2024. No construction start date, substantial completion date, or school opening target has been publicly announced for this project. Like Bell High School, Leo Politi's classroom replacement must clear California's Division of the State Architect (DSA) review and approval process before construction can begin, and the project must progress through LAUSD's pre-construction design and permitting pipeline. Construction on an occupied elementary school campus will require careful phasing to maintain uninterrupted instruction. The key near-term milestones are the same as Bell High School: a Design-Build or A/E Services RFQ on LAUSD's procurement portal, and any CEQA environmental review filings on the LAUSD Office of Environmental Health & Safety website (lausd.org/ceqa). Given that the June 2024 board approval is now nearly a year old and no procurement activity has surfaced publicly, the project's design-build solicitation could emerge in the near term as the district works through its project sequencing pipeline. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
