Plans call for ARPA E’s Modular Solid State Transformer program within the CIRCUITS initiative, to develop a 4–13 kV modular SST using silicon carbide power devices, rated at 50 kW single phase and 150 kW three phase, addressing four long standing barriers: high voltage insulation, thermal management, topology design, and fault current protection. Georgia Tech completed the ARPA E development phases and produced the technical foundation that directly seeded the commercial spinout Resilient Power Systems (RPS). The ARPA E’s CIRCUITS program provided federal R&D funding to the Georgia Tech Research Corporation, designating it as an anchor performer.
