Required for DCAMM contracts over $150,000, Highway Division contracts over $50,000. Installation of three (3) large-scale (300-600 sq ft each) custom mosaics at the newly constructed Tobin Montessori & Darby Vassall Upper Schools Complex, located at 197 Vassal Lane, Cambridge MA Installer must be skilled with both byzantine smalti and ceramic tile mosaic artworks. Mosaics will be made of hand-glazed ceramic tile, smalti, or glass mosaic. Mosaics will be fabricated and packed in crates. Mosaic sections will be identified for placement in overall mural composition. Mosaic sections will be packed ready for installation. Each of the three mosaic murals will be installed on a different building level. Installer will need to handle mosaic sections without causing any damage to mosaics or backings. Sections will vary in shape, with irregular perimeters. They will be approximately 2 x 3 each. Installer will need to make adjustments during installation to fit the mosaic mural to the dimensions of the walls in the field. Mosaics will be fabricated with allowance on all edges and image bleeds. All mosaic murals will be installed on cementitious backer board walls constructed by the city. Installer will need toto install joint tape and apply a bed of mortar to the backer board surface to receive the mosaic. Installer will also apply a backbutter of mortar to the back of the mosaic sections. Mosaic mural installer will use thin-set adhesive and grout.
