Alberta Health Services (AHS), in partnership with Alberta Health, developed the Medical Device Reprocessing Upgrades Program, a plan that strives to identify and address deficiencies in provincial medical device reprocessing equipment and infrastructure. The key objectives of the Medical Device Reprocessing Upgrades Program are to: Upgrade and renovate the physical spaces of medical device reprocessing centres; Replace equipment at identified high priority sites; Relocate displaced program occupants affected by the MDRD expansion. This includes renovations required to accommodate program occupants in their new spaces; and Comply with all relevant standards and best practices. As part of the Medical Device Reprocessing Upgrades Program, the Grey Nuns Community Hospital (GNCH), has been identified as requiring renovations, expansions and equipment upgrades of the Medical Device reprocessing Department (MDRD). This will allow for efficient support of the existing nine operating rooms as well as the additional two operating rooms underway through the Alberta Surgical Initiative (ASI) GNCH OR project. The project will be completed in alignment with AHS Infection Prevention and Control Healthcare Facility Design Requirements, and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards. The scope of the project includes: Renovating, upgrading and expanding the existing MDRD space to allow for increased reprocessing capacity to support current and future OR/endoscopy activities; New furniture, equipment and information technology equipment to support the increase in reprocessing capacity; Dumbwaiter repairs; Upgrade hoppers in 25 soiled utility holding rooms; and Relocate displaced program occupants affected by the MDRD expansion. This includes renovations required to accommodate program occupants in their new spaces.
