As of November 26, 2025, an architect has been selected, and this project is in early design. Due to the preliminary nature of this project, a timeline for bidding and construction has yet to be announced. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: INTRODUCTION The City of Athens is inviting qualified firms to submit their qualifications for providing planning, engineering, and architectural services for a new 24/7 fire station facility at 300 Elizabeth Street, Athens, TN. The site for the new facility is 2.47 acres and the survey is attached. The City intends to award the contract to the most qualified and responsive firm based on the evaluation criteria outlined in this RFQ. The selected firm will have experience in similar projects for municipal and governmental entities and will be responsible for architectural design, construction management, providing an opinion of probable cost, and submitting a project timeline for the new fire station. The facility will include 2-3 drive-thru bays, living/sleeping quarters for 6-8 occupants per shift, bathroom/showers, a dayroom, kitchen, dining room, officer quarters, climate-controlled turnout gear storage, laundry, locker rooms, EMS supply and decontamination areas, a tool/workshop area, storage, and a possible EMS addition. Geotechnical study has been completed and is attached, but additional studies may be required based on the building layout. The City seeks professional services to ensure the successful completion of this project. It is anticipated the proposals will be reviewed with an award by the City Council scheduled for May 20, 2025. Review will include a numerical ranking of the submitted proposals as well as considerations from subsequent firm interviews as deemed necessary. To award the work on May 20, 2025, everything must be in place to make a recommendation by May 2, 2025. The City reserves the right to reject any or all submissions, to waive irregularities in any proposal, and to make an award in any manner, consistent with law, deemed in the best interest of the City. RIGHT OF REFUSAL The municipality reserves the right to reject all RFQs in their entirety or to select certain firms for continued discussion or clarification without making commitments to such firm.
