Reference Number 0000290877 Question Acceptance Deadline 2025/05/09 02:00:00 PM PDT Yukon Energy operates on an isolated grid and relies on critical power generation units to support system restoration and provide reliable capacity during peak loading. The CAT 3516 Diesel Engine (Serial Number: 25Z01988) paired with the Kato Generator (Serial Number: 97765-02), known as DD4, is a vital component of this infrastructure, ensuring dependable power delivery during peak demand and system restoration scenarios. DD4 currently has 24,000 operating hours (OPH) and has reached its major overhaul interval. As the unit was approaching this interval, it experienced a cylinder head valve failure. Based on the current assessment and without further disassembly, the engine block and crankshaft appear to be serviceable. The overhaul will involve complete engine disassembly, inspection, cleaning, replacement of worn components, and reassembly using new high-quality OEM CAT parts or CAT Reman parts, ensuring compliance with CAT specifications, tightening procedures, torque values and warranty standards The generator end of DD4 previously underwent repairs to restore basic functionality. While it remains operational, recent assessment indicates it is no longer viable for long-term service or overhaul. It will likely need to be fully replaced; however, refurbishment may be considered if deemed technically and economically feasible. Sourcing and installing a replacement or refurbished generator end will be included as part of this project. If the generator lead time does not align with the completion of the engine overhaul, this will need to be communicated with YEC. A contingency plan will be developed to ensure the project remains on track to meet contractual deadlines, including consideration of interim operation with the existing generator if necessary and appropriate.
