This capital project entails replacing the building's HVAC system with 5-zones so that staff can properly adjust and maintain temperatures and humidity for the animals. The project would also include upgrading the existing electrical service, which is also undersized to meet the needs of the building. The existing undersized system supplies heat inconsistently, has no air returns, and does not meet modern zoological practices. The capital project will create a condition that CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM, FISCAL YEARS 2027-2031 56 is better for the exhibit animals as well as also lower heating and cooling costs. The HVAC system however cannot be upgraded until the insulation is replaced (see "Repair Roof at Sadler Building" capital project). Having proper husbandry standards, such as replacing the building's HVAC system, is key to AZA re- accreditation, to obtaining future specimens for the exhibit, and to retaining the visitation draw to the Zoo The project is included in the City's 2027-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) As of June 11, 2026 , further details have not yet been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
