The project area is the intersection of West Railway Street at Montvue Avenue connecting with Essendene Avenue, in Abbotsford, BC The City of Abbotsford has previously pursued conceptual options for the intersection’s geometric realignment, but due to the intersection’s close proximity to the historic downtown area, the project had been deferred until an overall neighbourhood plan had been developed. The final Historic Downtown Neighbourhood Plan (HDNP) was adopted by the City of Abbotsford on April 15, 2019. The neighbourhood plan identified the intersection realignment as an opportunity to create a neighbourhood plaza and gateway at the intersection of Essendene Avenue (i.e. West Railway Plaza). The main objectives of this project is/are: 1. To improve the intersection’s overall configuration in terms of traffic safety, flow, operation, and geometrics by relocating the intersection of Montvue Avenue to an access point further south on West Railway Street. 2. To create the public plaza as a gateway to Historic Downtown and a place to celebrate community spirit. The scope of work generally includes the following: Earthworks for new Montvue Avenue alignment Road construction, concrete curbs, sidewalk and asphalt paving Pavement Markings and Signage (By City Forces) Sanitary Sewer, Storm Sewer and Watermain replacement BC Hydro Undergrounding (civil works) Road Lighting, Pedestrian Lighting and Decorative Lighting Signalization Plaza Construction – concrete works, seat walls, stairs, planters etc. Landscaping Documents can be obtained from https://abbotsford.bidsandtenders.ca/ Award amount was not released for publication.
