Roadway Pavement Markings In the event that any person wishes to attend a bid opening or pre-bid meeting, accessible and reasonable accommodations will be provided to persons requiring assistance. (1) Description The work shall consist of all supervision, labor, equipment and materials necessary to apply and remove pavement markings on road surfaces throughout the City including any appurtenant work. Pavement markings shall be applied to roadway surfaces in locations and in the manner directed by the Director of Public Works or his representative. Pavement markings to be applied may include both white and yellow reflectorized painted and thermoplastic centerlines, lane lines, edge lines, stop bars, pavement arrows, legends, school zone letters (8' tall letters), and crosswalks. The Director of Public Works or his representative may direct the Contractor to apply temporary painted pavement markings during adverse weather and temperature conditions in the case of an emergency. The Contractor, at the direction of the Director or his representative, shall apply thermoplastic pavement markings to these locations when the weather and temperature have returned to seasonable conditions and in accordance with standard practices. All work shall be performed in accordance with these specifications, the General Requirements; applicable "Sections" of The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Department of Public Works Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges, 1988 Edition, including any and all amendments or addenda thereto, hereinafter referred to as the "Standard Specifications"; and as directed by the Director of Public Works of the City of Malden or his representative. Unless otherwise specified or directed or approved by the Department of Public Works, all materials and methods of application shall conform to current applicable provisions of Section 860 and Materials Section M7 of the Standard Specifications, as well as current edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devicesfor Streets and Highways. All materials are subject to the review and approval of the Owner. Unless otherwise specified or directed or approved by the Department of Public Works, pavement markings shall be removed by sandblasting, waterblasting, grinding or other mechanical methods approved by the Director of Public Works or his representative. The removal methods should cause no significant damage to the pavementsurface. Grooving is not permitted and grinding is permitted only when removing thermoplastic or epoxy pavement markings. Painting over existing markings material, must be vacuumed concurrently with the blasting operation or removed by other approved methods. Any damage to the pavement caused by pavement marking removal will be repaired by approved methods at no additional cost to the City. Bidders requiring clarification or interpretation of the Contract Documents shall make a written request to the Office of the Controller, at purchasing@cityofmalden.org . The City will only answer such requests if received by Monday, May 26th, 2025 at 10:00AM
