As of March 27, 2026, a design build contract has not been finalized. The county expects to make an award in April 2026. A construction start date has not been announced. The County reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of the comments/questions received, that will be posted on the Website. All questions or requests for clarification will receive a response within five (5) business day The new Kern County Fire Station #11 will be adjacent to the Hart Flat exit off Highway 58. The station will replace the existing station at Keene, approximately one mile to the east. The building will consist of a 12,770 SF single-story fire station providing the following operational components: A. Three bay drive through apparatus bays. B. Apparatus and firefighting support equipment and storage. C. Firefighter living quarters including kitchen, dayroom, locker room, exercise, laundry, and restrooms. D. A small administration area including public lobby, public restroom, captains' office, and firefighter workstations. E. Shade canopies adjacent to the exercise, dining, and apparatus bays. The project parcel (APN# 505-070-41) is 342,994 SF (7.47 AC). The area of Impervious including driveways, parking, building footprint, and building overhangs will total approximately 55,959 SF, 16.4% of the parcel. Site improvements and equipment will consist of: A. Front and rear apparatus aprons. B. 5 visitor parking spaces. C. 11 crew parking spaces. D. Emergency generator. E. Above ground fuel storage. F. Hose cleaning rack and drafting pit. G. Water storage tank serving both a domestic pressure tank and fire sprinkler pump.
