Upgrades and Improvements to Elswick Street and Route 6 Pump Stations. The Objective of This Rfp is Work of This Contract Comprises the Construction of Various Improvements and Upgrades to the Elswick Street Pump Station and Route 6 Pump Station in the Town of Dartmouth. The Project Includes, but Not Limited to the Following Work at Each Pump Station: Removal and Disposal of Two Suction Lift Pumps, One Back-up Gas Engine, Pump Controls, Piping and Valves in the Pump Station and Wet Well, Various Electrical Equipment, 500-gallon Lp Gas Aboveground Storage Tank and Related Appurtenances. Abandonment of Wet Well and Various Repairs to the Pump Station Aboveground Building. Furnish and Installation of New Submersible Pumps, Wet Well, Valve Vault, Piping and Valves, Electric Generator, Electrical and Instrumentation Work. Written Responses to Questions and/or Clarifications in a Will Be Emailed to All Prospective Firms Included on the Bidder's List. A. Provide photographs of site and construction throughout progress of Work, produced by a commercial photographer, acceptable to Engineer. B. Take digital photographs prior to ground breaking, for each Application for Payment and upon final acceptance. C. The Contractor shall have twenty (20) views taken at intervals noted under paragraph 1.02 B. The twenty (20) views shall be delivered to the Engineer as 8-inch by 10-inch prints, within three (3) days of exposure. A. The Contractor will select an independent testing laboratory consultant to be employed by the Contractor to perform concrete and soil testing as directed by the Engineer. The Engineer will approve all testing laboratory consultants. B. The Contractor will pay for all services performed by the independent testing laboratory consultant including those services described in paragraph 1.02 C. C. The Contractor shall pay for all services performed by the independent testing laboratory consultant for the following: 1. retesting resulting from failure of the submitted materials to meet specified standards; 2. retesting resulting from a change in the source of approved material; 3. testing required for more than one (1) sample when original samples for the same material are from two (2) different sources; or, 4. retesting required by a change in the composition of the delivered material. These additional services include, but are not limited to, material resampling, retesting and follow-up report preparation. The Contractor shall pay for such retesting whether the retest finds conformance or nonconformance with the Contract Documents. D. The Contractor shall pay for all services performed under paragraph 1.02 C. within 30 days of receipt of invoice for additional services from the independent testing laboratory consultant. A. The work covered by this section of the specifications consists of furnishing all labor, materials, tools and equipment and performing all work required for the prevention of environmental pollution during and as a result of construction operations under this contract. B. The requirements set forth in this section of the specifications apply to cross country areas, stream crossings and areas adjacent to wetlands and stormwater systems, unless otherwise specifically stated. A. This Section includes installation inspections/certifications, physical inspections, checkout (dry and wet), performance testing, trial operation testing, final system testing, initial startup and operator demonstration/instructions for all components of the Work. B. Work of this Section shall be incorporated in the Construction Schedule and the Contractor shall submit a separate section for all of the Work of this Section. C. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, chemicals, tools and instruments for checkout, testing, startup and operator demonstration/instruction. The Town will provide power and water. D. Related requirements are specified in Section 01730 - OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE DATA and the Related Sections listed in Paragraph 1.02. E. The checkout/testing/startup of systems at the Elswick Street Pumping Station and Route 6 Pumping Station shall be in accordance with the requirements and procedures specifically outlined hereafter. A. This section covers the temporary excavation support systems for all excavations. B. Design, furnish, and install temporary excavation support systems to maintain lateral support, prevent loss of ground, cut off groundwater, limit soil movements to acceptable limits, and protect from damage existing and proposed facilities including, but not limited to, pipelines, utilities, structures, roadways, and other facilities. C. The excavation support systems shall be selected to minimize the groundwater inflow into the excavation. D. Excavation support systems are required for the following: 1. Package Pump Stations. 2. New sewer pipes and force mains. E. All temporary excavation support systems, including tiebacks (if used) shall be within the Limit of Work. F. Construction of the temporary excavation support systems shall not disturb structures and utilities. Damage to such structures shall be repaired by the Contractor at no additional cost to the Town. G. The Contractor shall correct any failure, damages, subsidence, upheaval, or cave-ins, at no additional cost to the Town. H. No tiebacks shall be installed within twenty (20) feet of the any existing structures. A. Perform the following earth excavation, backfill, fill and grading as indicated or specified in this Section: 1. Make excavations to accommodate piping, conduits, foundations and other structures. 2. Provide materials for backfilling excavations and constructing fills as indicated. 3. Grade surfaces to meet finished grades indicated. B. Remove boulders within the excavation limits. Blasting will not be permitted. A. This Section includes furnishing and installing two complete packaged, pre-assembled pump stations. Each package pump station shall be complete with submersible pumps, precast concrete pump chamber with integral valve vault structure, slide rail pump removal system, discharge piping with required supports and fittings, discharge check and plug valves, bypass connection, access hatches with safety grates, valve vault access ladder, liquid level controls, flow meter, pump control panel, internal wiring and other required appurtenances. All work to be in accordance with site requirements, details in the Plans, and the manufacturer's recommendations for a complete pump station packaged system. 1. Wet Well: Includes precast concrete structure, submersible pumps, piping, and level sensors. 2. Valve Vault: precast concrete includes structures, piping and valves. 3. Meter Vault: precast concrete structures, piping and flow meters.
