A timeline for the award has not yet been established.** The City of Casper Reservoir (Reservoir) is located on the northwesterly corner of the City Golf Course just south of the YMCA in Casper. It was built in the mid-1950s and serves as a below ground, 10-million-gallon (MG) treated water storage facility for the Citys water distribution system which provides a safeguard for fluctuating Water Treatment Plant demands while supplying water to the Citys customers and other parts of the distribution system. The Reservoir also serves critical fire and emergency capacity water functions. In 2018, an inspection and study on the Reservoir. The study concluded that the reservoir is nearing the end of its useful life and identified tank leaks and operational challenges with the Reservoir as a potential burden to meeting water quality standards. In order to improve these issues, the 2020 Water System Master Plan recommended to take the Reservoir out of service and properly abandon/remove/fill/restore the land for safety and other intended use and replace it with two (2) 3 MG above ground water storage tanks. The proposed above ground water storage tanks allow for better operational maintenance (cleaning, coating exercising valving, etc.) and functional flexibility (keeping one tank online while providing maintenance to an offline tank, etc.). The City has applied for and been awarded a Wyoming Water Development Commission grant to fund this project.
