Site work for a road / highway in Chesapeake, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway.
This project funds replacement of overhead signs at 3 areas on the Chesapeake (Route 168) Expressway. Currently these locations have signs attached to overpasses, which is no longer recommended. The areas identified for replacement are northbound at Hanbury Rd. and both directions at Battlefield Blvd. on Route 168. Replacing these signs will prevent the need for frequent inspections and maintenance of these signs. It will also lower the risk for failure and accidents in the future due to snow loading and steel fatigue. VDOT has indicated that these types of signs that are bolted to bridges should be replaced with stand-alone signs. This is something that will prevent excessive maintenance and potential failure in the future. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of July 14, 2025, project is funded for design/construction in FY2026. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
