Reconstruction of the US-10 Business Route corridor through Downtown creates an opportunity to improve this critical gateway into Midland and address long-standing DDA objectives. This investment would move existing above-ground utilities underground along Buttles Street from Jerome to State and install a 10-foot shared-use, non-motorized path; install decorative traffic signal mast arms at signalized intersections; and install decorative street lighting throughout the DDA portion of the corridor. These improvements are aligned with the Michigan Department of Transportation's (MDOT) reconstructing of the Buttles corridor slated for 2026 or 2027. The City's cost share for reconstruction along with additional non-DDA costs for optional improvements to the corridor are shown on the Engineering - Major Streets table. As of July 14, 2025, this project is include in the City of Midland's 2026-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
