Every four years, the Michigan Department of Transportation assesses the pavement condition for all paved surfaces at the airport including hangar aprons, taxiways and runways. The last assessment completed in 2020 gave an overall rating of 66 out of 100 for the condition of the paved surfaces at the airport with several sections falling below a rating of 40. FAA regulations require the City to maintain the pavement in a condition that supports safe aviation. The 2020 report identified taxiway B and runway 6-24 as areas most in need of repair.
