Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in San Marcos, California. Completed plans call for the construction of a 49,200-square-foot educational facility; and for site work for a educational facility.
This project will acquire a 49,200 GSF Wellness and Recreation Center within a new mixed-use facility located on East Barham Drive between Redel Road and Industrial Street. Located near existing and future student housing, the building will provide a centralized facility to address basic needs, health education, fitness, and recreation. This facility will support both commuter and residential students and be accessible to all fee-paying Cal State San Marcos (CSUSM) students. It aims to promote student success, foster an inclusive campus environment, and enhance community engagement. The project will be funded by an increased student recreation fee passed via referendum in October 2024, effective upon opening in 2027. As of January 14, 2026, this project is included in the State's 2026 -2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Construction of the 49,200-square-foot Student Wellness & Recreation Center at CSU San Marcos is underway following its November 2025 groundbreaking, with completion targeted for summer 2027 as part of the six-acre North City mixed-use development.
