Site work for a power facility in Sept-Iles, Quebec. Conceptual plans call for site work for a power facility.
Increase the capacity of the existing Sainte-Marguerite-3 (SM-3) hydroelectric generating station on the Sainte-Marguerite River near Sept-Îles, Quebec, by adding a third generating unit. This expansion aims to add at least 440 MW to the facility, bringing total capacity to over 1,322 MW. The scope of the project also includes the construction of a 300-meter underground penstock. TIMELINE: The project is advancing through the environmental assessment and permitting phase following a significant federal decision allowing to proceed to the project development. The owner is currently finalizing its required impact study, which is expected to be filed in Summer 2026. Field environmental surveys were already completed. Timelines of project development and final budget are expected to be detailed in the Impact Study filing scheduled for Summer 2026. Further update in fall/late 2026.
